The John Snow Scholarship is one of the Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine's (AFPHM) programs aimed at strengthening and enhancing education in public health medicine.
The Scholarship aims to increase the proportion of medical students who are able to identify:
a) public health medicine as a medical specialty or potential career
b) the AFPHM as the learned college for public health medicine training.
This national competition inviting medical students to:
- Identify a piece of written work relating to any of the AFPHM competencies that they have submitted for formative or summative assessment to their medical school,
- Reflect on this piece of work, and • Submit both the piece of work and reflection for assessment and selection of a state/territory prize winner by AFPHM Fellows and trainees.
Each year, up to eight (8) scholarship recipients, representing each Australian state/territory and New Zealand, are provided with travel assistance (up to 400AUD) and full registration to attend next year's AFPHM National Annual Scientific Meeting to present their work and compete for the national prize.
