Myths and Facts
No holidays for final years - Myth Busted
This myth applies to: Fourth/C years only
Myth added: 25th March 2010
There's been a rumour going around that the Faculty is trying to change the structure of final year. As it stands, there are 7x6wk rotations, one of which is a vacation. Is the faculty trying to mix things up so that we have 8 week rotations? Are we still going to have a holiday?
After meeting with the Faculty 5th Year Management Committee on 25/2/10, MUMUS can confirm that the six-week holiday rotation will remain. There may actually be an extra week given to students around the time of job applications, but this is yet to go beyond initial discussions.
International Students Aren't Guaranteed Internships - Myth Confirmed
This myth applies to: Fifth/D years only
Myth added: 25th March 2010
I've heard that only CSP students are guaranteed internships! What does this mean for me? Do I have to leave Australia to get a job?
At the moment, the Government has only guaranteed internships for CSP students. This leaves approximately 1 in 4 students without a guaranteed place. This said, most students will most likely still get a job. Check out amsa.org.au for further info.
No more honours? - Under Investigation
This myth applies to: All MBBS students
Myth added: 24th April 2010
I heard that the Faculty isn't going to award honours based on coursework marks anymore? Is that true?
After initial discussions with the Faculty, they claim that any changes made will be made according to the University and Australian Qualifications Framework. So, what does this mean exactly? At the moment, the Faculty hasn't decided what they're doing with honours, so, a mark of 80 will get you first class honours, and a mark of 75 will get you second class honours. Either way, you'll have MBBS (Hons.) after your name. Just to put things in perspective though, you get a job before you find out if you are awarded Honours or not!
Year 5 exit exam - Myth Confirmed

Myth added: 24th June 2010
There's a possibility of a year 5 exit exam next year or in the works
We too have heard this rumour. There is a possibility of a final year exam according to the Faculty. At the moment discussions are ongoing and we have a guarantee from them that no changes will be implemented until 2012. Watch this space.
